Certifications
EPA 608
The EPA 608 Certification is required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for anyone who works with refrigerants in air conditioning and refrigeration systems. This certification ensures that technicians understand how to safely handle and recover refrigerants to protect the environment. There are four types of certification—Type I, II, III, and Universal—depending on the kind of equipment the technician services.
A2L Flammable Refrigerants Certification
The A2L Flammable Refrigerants Certification prepares HVAC/R technicians to safely work with new, low-global-warming A2L refrigerants, which are mildly flammable. This certification covers proper handling, storage, leak detection, system charging, and recovery procedures. It also includes safety protocols, updated codes and standards, and best practices for working with A2L systems in residential and commercial applications. This certification is essential as the industry shifts toward more environmentally friendly refrigerants.
ESCO Brazing Certification
The ESCO Brazing Certification is a nationally recognized credential that verifies a technician’s ability to perform proper brazing techniques used in HVAC/R system installation and repair. This certification focuses on safety, proper use of tools and equipment, joint preparation, and quality brazing practices. Technicians must demonstrate their skills through a hands-on performance test. Earning this certification shows employers and customers that you meet industry standards for strong, leak-free, and reliable brazed joints.
HVAC Employment Ready Air Conditioning Certification
The HVAC Employment Ready Air Conditioning Certification is designed to confirm that entry-level technicians have the essential knowledge to begin working in the HVAC industry. This certification focuses on core topics such as air conditioning system operation, components, safety practices, and basic troubleshooting. It serves as a strong foundation for new technicians, demonstrating to employers that the candidate is job-ready and understands key concepts needed to work with residential and light commercial AC systems.
HVAC Excellence Employment Ready Electrical Certification
The HVAC Excellence Employment Ready Electrical Certification validates that entry-level HVAC/R technicians understand basic electrical concepts used in heating and cooling systems. This certification covers essential topics such as electrical safety, wiring, motors, relays, switches, circuit diagrams, and troubleshooting procedures. It demonstrates that a technician is prepared to work safely and effectively with electrical components in HVAC systems—an important skill for success in the field.
HVAC Excellence Employment Ready Heat Pump
The HVAC Excellence Employment Ready Heat Pump Certification verifies that entry-level technicians understand the operation, components, and service requirements of heat pump systems. This certification covers topics such as the refrigeration cycle, reversing valves, defrost controls, auxiliary heat, and basic troubleshooting. It shows that a technician is prepared to safely and accurately install, maintain, and repair residential and light commercial heat pump systems.
